Krabi province administration covers more than 130 islands in the Andaman Sea, famous among which are Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta. “Koh” in thai mean “island” and thus all island names are prefixed with a koh.
The topography in Krabi is unique, with its tall limestone cliffs breaking the plains and ocean. The Krabi’s sandy clay soil is very fertile to rubber, mango, coconut and palm trees. The Krabi river flows through the main town of Krabi and joins the Andaman Sea at Tambon Pak Nam.
Listed below are some of the most popular and beautiful beaches of Krabi
Ao Nang Beach
Ao Nang is the most developed beach area in Krabi. The bay has more than 80 islands scattered around. During low tides, one can actually wade their way through from one island to the other. This part of Krabi is the most tourist-friendly and is dotted with numerous shops, massage parlors and eateries.
Facilities for boat trips are organized from this beach. With vast options for accommodation, transportation, food and relaxation on this stretch of sea front, it is most commonly used as the base camp for tourists for exploring Krabi.
Hat Noppharat Thara
This beach is on the western coast of Krabi town and is approximately 3 miles long. It covers an extensive area of mainland and includes the famous islands of Phi Phi.
Railay Beach
Pristine beaches of white powder sands and clear waters make Railay a favorite amongst tourists. Situated south of Ao Nang, the beaches of Railay are accessible only by boat and that adds to the charm and serenity of the place. Besides, these beaches also provide opportunities for rock climbing enthusiasts. A breathtaking view of the area from the top of the cliffs is a reward in itself for the hardship one undergoes to climb the hills.
Klong Muang Beach
After Ao Nang, an upcoming and buzzing tourist destination in Krabi is Klong Muang. Some of the largest luxury resorts are along this coastline and one can also find small stretches of retail outlets on the main road along the beach.
Tubkaak Beach
This stretch of beach is one of the most virgin stretches of sand and sea along the Krabi coastline. It boasts of some of the most boutique resorts in Krabi and has yet maintained the calm and peace of nature. The sea is very calm and safe for swimming. There are no establishments on Tubkaak other than the hotels.
Phi Phi Island Beaches
These islands are few of the most sought after beach destinations in the world. The beautiful scenery of these islands are not just limited to the silver sand beaches but the turquoise blue sea waters, the myriad colored coral reefs and the abundant underwater marine life. The water is so clear and shallow; one can see the bottom of the ocean and its colored splendor.
Less than two hours by boat from mainland Krabi, Phi Phi comprises of twin islands of Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh. Phi Phi Don is the larger of the two islands and it is here that the tourist attractions of resorts, restaurants, shops, excursions and beaches lie.
Phi Phi Leh is more rugged and rustic in its landscape and much smaller in area. Its main attractions are the sharp and jagged limestone cliffs and Viking-like caves, which are deep and hollow.
